Monday was Jonah's 2nd Grade Awards day. We loaded a backpack with some books and things for Micah and off we went. He could hardly wait to see "my brover Jonah!" If ever a boy did love his brother, it is this one. He may not use his binoculars the correct way but he knows how to love!!!
The first things kids do when they come in is look for their parents. Jonah spotted us quickly.
Jonah very happily received the Science Award. He still says he will be a scientist when he grows up.
He also received his trophy for the 200 point club of Reading Counts. It's a little odd how they do trophies for Reading Counts. You don't get a trophy for your actual points read but for the level you needed to attain to for that year. 2nd grade requires 200 points so that is the trophy he got even thought he had 796 points for the year. Here he is with all the kids in his class who got their 200 point trophy.
He was also 1 of the 2 kids in all of 2nd grade who read 1 million words this year. He was fairly close to hitting the 2 million mark. Had we known he was that close, he would have pushed a little harder and read one more book to push him over. He hit just over 1 million in 1st grade but he didn't get recognized with class awards because his name was missed. So, he was happy to be included this time.
Here is Jonah's entire class with their awards.
Jonah and Logan have been in the same class since Kindergarten. He will tell you that Logan is his best friend. He is a super kid and is a really good friend to Jonah.
Jonah and Brock have also been in the same class since Kindergarten. Brock is a really sweet friend to Jonah. He is an athletic kid but always includes Jonah. A few weeks ago, Jonah told us that he overheard Brock telling the other boys to "let Jonah get the ball" when they were playing football. Jonah knows he isn't as good in athletics as any of the other boys. We told him that Brock was a really good friend to do that for him. He didn't try to embarrass him but certainly stood up for him. I sent his mom a text that night to tell her what a great kid he is. I'm glad Jonah has him as a friend. (This is totally unrelated to the pictures from this post but goes with this story. Today was another awards day and Brock got the Sportsmanship Award today. TOTALLY DESERVED!)
Here is Jonah with our Principal, Mrs. Hogue and our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Williams. (Mrs. Williams, is also Brock's mom and our neighbor!)
The kids loved checking what was in each other's point bags for Reading Counts. Jonah was thrilled to get his tshirt. Brock was equally thrilled for him. And, Micah...well, he was having a full on conversation with "Dis!"
Jonah has had a great year with Mrs. Newman. She's pushed him and challenged him. She's helped him gain confidence and believe in himself. He loves her so much!
