Several weeks ago, we picked Jonah up from school and headed downtown to take part in the DeLand High School homecoming parade. We missed it last year because we were in Atlanta at the Catalyst conference. Homecoming is HUGE around here so we did not want to miss it again. The parade started at 3 (I think? It has been a few weeks so I could be wrong.) but the downtown streets were already closed. We decided to go ahead and park then eat lunch downtown.
Jonah was dressed in his DeLand "Lil Bulldog" shirt and had his megaphone that he made at school. He loved yelling "GO BULLDOGS" because of the reaction he got from everyone. Then, he decided it could also be used as a telescope!!
We knew we would be waiting a little while so we brought a toy with us to pass the time. Dan and Jonah played for over an hour. We had great spots in the shade right on the Stetson campus. It was fabulous weather so the wait wasn't bad. It was actually enjoyable to be out there.
Apparently, all the parade watching and candy getting makes a 4 year old kind of tired. Who knew?
I was once again reminded how odd it is to live in a tourist area because there were a couple of Official Nascar Pace Cars in the high school parade. I guess that is the benefit of living so close to Daytona Beach and the Daytona Speedway.
Be sure to watch this video of Jonah doing his Bulldog Cheer with his handmade megaphone.
