Our family has started to get a little homesick for Vidalia lately. Sunday marked 6 months of living in Deland. While we feel so called here and absolutely love being a part of this church and community, our hearts still ache for friends back in the Miss-Lou. People often ask us how we handle being so far from our family. Truthfully, that is the easy part. We married May 15, 1999 and moved 7 hours from them on August 1, 1999. Our entire married lives have been spent with family anywhere from 2 to 16 hours away. But, those people in Vidalia were such a part of the last 7 years of our lives that leaving them has been hard at times. This past week, we received a gift in the mail that I will post about later but it brought many of them so much closer to us. It was the first time we had seen some of those faces or heard some of those voices and it made our day/week/month/year.
Then today, we got to see our first friends from there. Cliff and Debra were wonderful friends to our family. Cliff was on the committee that brought Dan to FBCV as Worship Pastor then again was on the committee that presented him as Senior Pastor. He has been an incredible supporter of Dan's ministry and our family. He and Debra (Beppa) were the first people who knew we were pregnant with Jonah. We showed up at their house with 9 pregnancy tests wrapped in a dish towel. They cried and rejoiced with us! We went to NYC together. They bought Jonah his first two cars, the Tot Rod and the Cozy Coupe. They love our little guy like he is theirs. You see them all over this blog because they have been such a huge part of our lives.
So, we were thrilled to find out that he had a banking conference at the Gaylord Palms. We were able to spend the afternoon with them then go to dinner at Kobe tonight. Jonah could hardly wait for them to arrive at the hotel. When we spotted them, he took off running but they never noticed him. I finally yelled his name and Jonah ran to him. He got a little intimidated after they didn't see him at first. But, one he was in Cliff's arms, he was so very happy. Watch the video to see!
Jonah was very happy to see a Target bag that was full of goodies for him. Then, he was even more thrilled to be able to help pull the suitcases to their room. He is such a helper!
We had a wonderful dinner at Kobe Japanese Steakhouse. Jonah even got a drink with an umbrella. He was quite thrilled with that but very upset when he realized we left it at the restaurant!
We are so glad they are here through the week and we will get to visit more with them. We love their family and are so glad our lives were intertwined for the past 7 years. What a great blessing they have been to us!
