If you are a follower of our blog, a friend of our family or just someone who has met us once or twice, then you know Jonah LOVES the Grinch. This is due to his relationship with the Welch Family. They host a Grinch party every Christmas and that ignited something in my little boy. He used to walk in their house (several times a week) and immediately ask to watch The Grinch. They always put the DVD in for him and watched with him. They even gave him a Grinch doll for his birthday. He sleeps with it every night and calls it his "birthday Grinch!" Just last week, he opened a package from them containing his Christmas gift...Grinch pajamas!!! Needless to say, they foster his love of the The Grinch and were so excited when I told them about our plans.
One day I was online looking at some fun Christmas things to do in this area and came across "Breakfast With The Grinch" at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. I immediately called and got details. In the meantime, one of our church members was discussing Jonah's love of the Grinch with some family over Thanksgiving. That family member works at Universal and contacted us to see if we would like free tickets into the parks so we could do this. We were blown away by their kindness and so very appreciative.
We purposefully did not tell Jonah about this because his little three year old mind can't quite understand patience and waiting. I had grand ideas of how we would wake him up the morning of the breakfast to tell him about what we were doing. It was going to be perfect. He would be in his Grinch pajamas with his Grinch doll in the bed beside him. Somehow, I forgot to share this dream with Dan. On the way into our hotel that night, he shared the exciting news with Jonah.
Jonah's normal bedtime is 8:00 p.m. We got to our room around 9 after taking pictures with Santa. He was already 1 hour late for bed so we knew he would go right to sleep. As the Grinch would say, WRONGO!!!! He was so excited that he couldn't sleep. He was in the bed next to ours and would just randomly giggle. Then he would scream out something about "meeting that Grinch!" He finally settled down some time after midnight. Not good considering we were getting up at 6:00 a.m. EEKS!
The breakfast included The Grinch, The Cat in the Hat and Bubbles Who from Whoville! Obviously, Jonah was most interested in The Grinch but was pretty smitten with The Cat. I packed a back up shirt for him for the day and it just so happened to be The Cat in the Hat.
The Cat saw it and picked it up and acted like he was going to wear it. Jonah told him he was too big for "that little blue Cat shirt!" The cat gave it to him so he wore it instead.
As soon as the Cat left our table, Jonah took his Cat shirt off so his Grinch shirt could be seen easily. He wanted to make sure the Grinch saw it and liked it.
And, since this was a breakfast, you might be wondering if they served green eggs and ham. Yep, they did. Dan had some on his plate for proof.
He was a little afraid of Bubbles Who at first but warmed up to her fairly quickly. She talked to him about The Grinch and he shared all of his Grinch knowledge with her. Then, I just snapped away as he watched The Grinch. Can you tell he was having a good time?
Every few minutes, he would turn to Dan to say "did you see that?" or "did you hear that?" He wanted to be sure we did not miss a single moment of this experience.
I took lots of pictures yesterday and will post them as time allows. Breakfast was not Jonah's only encounter with The Grinch. Stay tuned for more.
