On Screamer Mountain...

I'm sitting in a dark cabin while my kids and my friend sleep.  We left DeLand at 6 this morning and drove 10 hours to find our lovely cabin on Screamer Mountain in Georgia.  We have a beautiful view and are excited to experience some fun things over the next few days.  Our purpose for this trip was to bring Jonah to camp at Winshape.  It's a huge deal for me that my baby big kid is going to a big kid camp.  Winshape is wildly popular and hard to get into as you get older.  So, we decided to start him this year so he will have a spot for the teen years.

Rather than drive 10 hours to drop him off then turn around to go home, Louise and I decided to come together and turn this into a fun week for Micah all the while being close to Jonah's camp in case anything happens that I would need to get to him.  (Admitted helicopter mom here!)  Ideally, Dan would just take a week of vacation and be with me but he has to be in the office because VBS is next week.

Last year found every staff member out of the office during the week preceding VBS.  No ministerial staff was around to help.  Then, when VBS came, they were all exhausted over whatever had them busy the week before.  So, Dan made the rule that no one could be out the week before VBS.  That rule hit us hard because I so wish he could be here to be part of this.  But, I know where he needs to be.  VBS is an all hands on deck week and it is important for them to all be present to help and ready to be fully engaged to minister next week.

We drop Jonah at camp tomorrow and then we have lots of fun things planned within a couple of hours from this cabin.  We plan to do several day trips.  We are going to ride a train, see the Indians, see waterfalls, visit some friends who live here, eat some good food and maybe even relax a little.  I know I will be itching for Friday to get here so I can hear every single detail from Jonah.

It's going to be a big week for him.  I'm asking God to do some big things in his little life and heart!

FBCV Celebration Trip- Day 2

When we woke up in Baton Rouge, LA on the 2nd day of our trip, we found our kiddos enjoying some electronic time.  We told them the night before that they could get up at 8:00 a.m. and play until we woke up.  Those sweet boys let us sleep until 9:30 a.m.  After the 4 a.m. wake up call the previous day, that sleep was much needed.  We had a great breakfast at the hotel then headed out for the next adventure on our journey.

Our hotel was right next to the LSU campus so we had to take the boys over to begin their mission of visiting all of the SEC campuses.  (Granted, they don't know this is a mission of theirs but it is one we kind of created for them!)

LSU is actually a great place to start because of seeing Mike The Tiger in his habitat.  Unfortunately, Mike was sleeping and didn't care too much about our kids wanting to see him move around.

We walked over to the Spirit Shop and had to laugh because as soon as we walked in the door, we spotted Dak Prescott on the tv.  It made these Mississippi State fans very happy.
After walking around for a bit, we got back into our car and drove a couple of hours to Alexandria, LA.  That wasn't in our original plan but when Eli Brixey made his debut into our world 5 weeks early, we made a few adjustments so we could go love on his momma and grandparents at the hospital.  She didn't know we were coming and it was quite emotional.  After all the tears were dried, we sat in the NICU waiting room and visited with the Randall family.  I was glad I packed books in Micah's backpack.

Only Kassi, John and their parents were allowed to go back to see the baby.  But, since Dan is a pastor, he was also allowed back.  I sent my camera for some pictures.

I'm very happy to report that baby Eli is home with his mommy and daddy in Vidalia and is doing very well after a rocky start to his little life!

Since we were in Alexandria, we had to make a call to John & Carol Alley to see if they were available for a quick visit.  John Alley was the Interim pastor before Dan at FBCV.  We spent countless hours at Ruby Tuesday in Natchez, MS listening to him tell stories about ministry, instruct Dan on ways to handle things, correct Dan on things he did wrong, encourage us, pray for us and convince us that God was calling Dan to be a pastor.  That couple holds a special place in our hearts so it was a joy to see them.

As soon as we walked in, he picked up two books he had saved for Jonah.  They were copies of Tom Sawyer and The Bobsey Twins that he received as an 8 year old boy.  He knew Jonah was a reader and wanted him to have his books.  It was so special.

We drove 90 minutes more and finally made it to our destination...Vidalia!  After lots of hugs, laughs and some good Johnny's Pizza, the boys could hardly wait to jump in the pool with Eli.  It was a great beginning to the next 4 days with our friends!
