Week one is in the books!

It's hard to believe that summer is over and we have a full week of school in the books.  Homework has been almost non-existent so we've still made the afternoons mimic summer.  The pool has been in use every day of this week.  Jonah has had three play dates this week after school.  We've had dinner at home almost every night.  It has been nice.

Micah has jumped right back in to school without missing a beat.  I was concerned about him because every time I mentioned school, he would say something about not going back because he didn't need to go back.  Whenever I mentioned his teacher, he would say "no thanks!"  I was worried.  But, he did great.  He is in a 3/4 year old class.  He's doing the VPK curriculum with a few other 3 year old kids sprinkled in.  There haven't been any tears.  There have been lots of smiles.

He already seems so big to me.  He is eating better.  He cleans up after himself.  (He loads the dishwasher a lot like I do which drives Dan crazy!)  He now can fully dress and undress himself.  (Although, he has a little trouble getting his shirt off sometimes!)  Today, after we got out of the pool, he got clothes out of his drawer, put them on and even found shoes that match.  I was super proud of him.  He's growing up.  I feel like I should be a little sad but I'm not.  I'm just proud of him.

His big brother Jonah loves 3rd grade.  It doesn't hurt that he has an amazing teacher.  Honestly, I feel so fortunate that we have been blessed with the best teachers.  I know that we can be this fortunate every year in the future but I'm thankful for it now.  I got to his school an hour before pickup today and ended up in a conversation with a teacher at his school.  She was talking to me about the different teachers Jonah has had and asked if we knew how lucky we were to ride that wave?  Yes, we do!  Being up there again today just reminded me that this is the place God has us for a very specific reason.  And, as a bonus, another teacher stopped me to say they would be joining our church.

Jonah starts back to piano this week.  He takes a break from that during the summer.  I think music education has really helped him in the classroom.  That will be something I will encourage him to do for a while.  It isn't always fun to practice but his self esteem sure is better when he is in the midst of lessons.  He wants to take drum lessons too.  (Yep...LOUD DRUMS!)

While I have missed my kids terribly this week, it has been a great week for me also.  I got a lot done at work Monday.  I didn't feel rushed to get back home to them.  I was able to catch up and actually get ahead a little.  I've made some great meals.  I've even made our bed every day.  If you know me at all, that is huge!  When I was a kid, my mom made me make my bed every day and I swore I would never do it when I was a mom.  So, I don't.  Until now.  But, I've just realized that a bed made makes the house house appear clean.  At least to me it does.  So, I've started that.  I'm not sure how long it will last but I'm kind of enjoying it for now.   I've gotten up early.  I've had worship music playing most of the day.  I'm caught up on my study on the life of Paul.  I've been more intentional with journaling and prayer.  I feel refreshed.

I'm looking forward to next week because I plan to add my exercise in first thing in the morning rather than at 10:30 p.m.  I had a little scare when I was out last week that has made me nervous about going out alone that late to exercise.  (Although, I did tell Dan that if I died while out at night exercising to be sure that makes my obituary!!)  I'm just more of a night time person so that was easier for me.  Mornings will be a little more difficult.  (and HOT!)

We have some fun plans for our kiddos tomorrow (assuming it doesn't rain!) so off to bed I go!
