Well, he is halfway right!

Jonah had several graded papers in his folder when he got home from school today.  He typically does very well in math but on this paper, he got 6/9.  I glanced at it and commented to Dan that he didn't do so well and that was very odd.  Not long after that, Dan came in holding the paper and laughing.  He said "Did you read the answers on the questions he missed?"  I told him I didn't.  He read them to me.  (They were all similar in nature)

#3.  Writing in Math.  Find the 2 missing numbers on this number line.  How did you find the numbers.

Jonah's answer:  "I remembered the way my teacher taught me!"

The correct answer was "counting by tens"  Theoretically, he was correct.  He did do it by remembering the way his teacher taught him. Dan says if he were in college, he could have totally argued with the professor for credit on that one.

Gator Bowl Pep Rally and Parade

As evidenced by the timeliness of my blog posts, I take great pride in quickly reporting the most recent news from The Glenn Gang.  And, by great pride, basically I mean I'm just happy to get a post done before the one year anniversary of that event.  Ahem.  Actually, I am rather timely but when I have posts with a lot of pictures (like this one) I tend to put it off until I have time to really write about it.  Then, by the time (in this case over 2 months later) rolls around, I'm so far behind that I basically post the pictures with no descriptions just to move the post from my DRAFTS to PUBLISHED folder!  So, that pretty much sums up what you are about to see happen.

Back on New Year's Eve, we loaded up our family of four and headed to Jacksonville for the day.   The Mississippi State Bulldogs were playing in The Gator Bowl the next day and there were lots of activities leading up to the big game. We didn't want to take the boys to the game but we did want them to experience a little fun courtesy of Dan's Alma Mater.

Doesn't Micah look thrilled to be there?  Hee Hee!  That boy was tired before the fun ever started.
We first enjoyed the pep rally.  And by enjoyed, I really mean sweated a whole lot.  It was cold when we left home.  I didn't plan for it to heat up.  Ooops.

I look up at one point and Jonah was BAWLING and holding his eye.  Micah had whacked him in the head with the cowbell.  It was so loud, we didn't even hear him crying.
Micah did feel really bad for hurting his brother.  His concern didn't make the pain go away but it was awfully sweet to see.

Check out the mark over Jonah's eye.  Poor guy!  Those cowbells are dangerous!
We attempted a few family shots using the ole' "hold your arm out" method.  We weren't successful.

A nice lady in front of us offered to take one for us.  MUCH BETTER!

After the pep rally, we had lunch then found our spot for the parade.
Jonah was especially happy to meet up with his buddy Rob.  Rob is the biggest MSU fan we know and such a good daddy and friend to kids.  Jonah adores him.  If  we lived near them, I'm pretty sure Rob would hold Jonah's "best friend" status.  He thinks he is amazing.

It was a really fun day...especially for Dan.  He loves his bulldogs but lives too far away to get to do much pertaining to MSU.  So, sharing this day with his school and family was fun for him.  And, just exhausting enough to wear this little guy out for the ride home.

Three years ago...

Three years ago today, God surprised us with another sweet little boy!  The story of that day is listed HERE!

Jonah is a little reader.  Like, he loves it.  He doesn't read for school or Reading Count points,(although he has to do those some) he reads for pleasure.  For instance, this afternoon, he read "Lead Us To Freedom, Harriet Tubman!"  That book is a 3.4 Reading Level with 4 Reading Counts Points.  It has 10 chapters and 58 pages.  He read it in 90 minutes.  Cover to Cover!  He is 6!  He reads fiction and non-fiction.  He is a lover of the written word!

While he was reading today, I was on the phone chatting with my friend, Kristin.  She is a teacher in Alabama.  She was at our house last December and fell in love with my boys.  She and Jonah totally hit it off.  Most every time he learns something new, he always wants to tell her.  So, as we were talking today, he said "tell Mrs. Kristen about the book I'm reading!"  So, I said "Jonah wants you to know he is reading about Harriet Tubman!"

And, in true teacher fashion, she immediately got excited for him and all he was learning.  She said "Did you know she suffered from Narcolepsy?"  Jonah said "I don't even know what suffered means?"  So, after I ended my conversation with Kristen, I explained suffering to Jonah.  We never mentioned the narcolepsy again.

Fast forward a couple of hours later.  Jonah was in the backseat as we drove to BJJ.  (Since everyone asks what BJJ is, I'll go ahead and include the link HERE.)  I said "Jonah, when you were reading about Harriet Tubman, was there anything about her falling asleep?  He said "YES!  She fell asleep a lot.  She had to have a helper with her when she was helping slaves escape."  I said "Jonah, that is called Narcolepsy.  That is the word Mrs. Kristen told you that Harriet Tubman suffered from."  He said "Ohhhh.  I know what it means now!"

We drove a little while longer and from the backseat he piped up and said "Mommy, do you have Narcolepsy?  You sure take a lot of naps!"

Say Whaaaaaa?

Last week, Dan's brother and his family were here visiting from South Carolina.  We gave Jonah's bed to the girls so he slept on an air mattress in our room.  He had a little trouble falling asleep the first night so we moved him to our bed until we came to bed then put him back on the floor.  This worked much better for him each night.  Well, when we took his things from his bed to our room, we told him he could get one "sleepy toy" to take with him.  We knew he would get Lammy.

Except, he didn't!  He chose Murphy.  Murphy was a Valentine gift to him from Lloyd and Susan.  He is a cute little puppy holding a heart.  Their dog's name is Murphy so Jonah named his new puppy after their dog.  And, since he received the gift, Murphy has been in bed with him each night.  And, when given a choice, Murphy beat out Lammy.  I can't believe it.  No toy has ever come close to the level of love he has for Lammy.

When we came to bed that night and I realized he took Murphy over Lammy, I had to snap a picture with my phone.  I'll be curious to see how the Lammy/Murphy attachment shakes out over the next couple of weeks.
