What we are working on

One of our summer goals for Jonah is for him to learn to tie his shoes.  After a few days of working on this, we have decided that we wish we would have never started that.  Ugh.  I think this is more difficult than potty training!

Even with all the struggles, I think he has almost got it.  So, I'm taking a leap of faith and ordering his school shoes with ties instead of velcro.  I'm not sure at what age kids normally learn but I think I remember learning in Kindergarten.  What about you?

Independence Day- 2012

Making holiday plans are always a little difficult when your kids are over 4 years apart in age.  There are all sorts of fun and adventurous things we could do that Jonah would love but it would be a little difficult with Micah.  So, we stuck close to home this year.  We joined some friends at their neighborhood pool for several hours.

Before we left home, I was trying to talk to Jonah about the significance of this day.  We've been talking about it all week but he is still in the mode of birthday=party so "America's birthday" has him totally confused.

We got there at 10:00 and hardly anyone was there.  It was basically empty for the first two hours we were there.  It started to fill up about the time we were ready to leave.

My boys swam and played their hearts out.  Little Micah kept up with them and swam just as much as they did.  He is finally big enough for the Puddle Jumper floaties I bought him.  These things make life so much easier with little ones in the water.

We took lunch with us to the pool so Micah was ready to go straight to bed when we got home.  He slept for 4.5 hours.  I'm not surprised though.  He swam for a good 3 hours.  Poor baby was tired!  He went back to bed around 7 tonight.

While he napped, Jonah and Dan went to see the new Spiderman movie.  Thanks to Pluggedinonline.com, we can now check movies to see if they are appropriate for him.  It gives a list of every word, innuendo, reference and behavior.  That isn't a movie I would normally let him see for fear of what might be in it but the review gave us the go ahead.  Dan said he loved it!

Now, the two of them are with friends at the Lake Helen Firework show while I am home with Micah. I found myself watching a documentary about trash.  Yes, riveting...I know.

Throwing toys

Jonah:  (from the other room)  Mommy!  Mommy!!!!!!  Micah keeps hitting me with a toy!

Me:  (still in the other room)  Micah!  Stop hitting Jonah with toys!

Jonah:  (now half crying)  Stop it, Micah!  That hurts!

Micah:  (Giggling)

Jonah:  MOOOOOMMMMMMY!

I walk in the room to discover the "toy" Micah is hitting Jonah with is a ball!  And, he isn't hitting Jonah, he is throwing it to him in hopes of Jonah throwing it back to him.  You know, a game of CATCH?!?!?!
