Reading

Before Jonah was born, we started buying books for him.  If you can believe this, I bought books before I bough clothes.  It seems we picked a book up each time we were in a store.  By the time he was born, he had 50-60 books.  I remember reading "Danny Duck Takes A Dive" to him as his first book.  He was only a few weeks (maybe days) old.

Since then, we have spent hours upon hours reading to him.  Then, somehow this year, us reading to him turned into him reading to us.  But, the great thing about this age is that he still loves to be read to by us.  I don't know when that switch happens to total self reading sufficiency, but we both treasure the times we still get to read to him.

Back at Christmas time, we bought this leather chaise for the corner of our living room.  It has become the preferred reading spot.  Almost every afternoon, I snuggle up in the chair with Jonah and we read.  Now, he prefers his chapter book reading before bed to be done there too.  (We are currently reading Charlotte's Web and The Magic Treehouse Series)  Micah has seen us read there so much that when he gets a book, that is where he takes my hand and leads me.

Tonight, Dan and Jonah were reading there and I looked over my shoulder and just smiled.  (and grabbed the camera!)  I wonder how many days we have left like this?

Silver Springs

Have you ever had one of those days that you know will be forever etched in your memory?  Yeah, today was one of those days for me.  It was so close to perfect.  We drove an hour away to Silver Springs.  It seems we were one of just a few families who decided to do this today because the place was practically empty.

I always attempt to get a good picture of my boys together.  As you will see, I failed in my attempt.

Poor little Micah, he is at the age of wanting freedom and sometimes that doesn't happen.  In those times, he melts fairly quickly!  We were waiting in line for the glass bottom boat and he wasn't such a fan of the waiting.

One of the things Silver Springs is most well known for is the glass bottom boat.  I remember doing this back in 1991 when I went to Disney with the Ramsey/Bailey families.

Yep, confined again. Still not happy about it!

Yep, there is Jonah.  Yep, he has a map.  Yep, very typical!

We waited few minutes for the bird show to start.  It was hot waiting but the boys loved it.  Especially Micah.  Most people watched him rather than the birds.  He laughed out loud over and over.  It was quite funny.

We all enjoyed the jeep tour.  We saw so many animals up close.

They had a really nice play area for small kids.  And, unlike most places, the actually regulated who went in and out.  Therefore, no kids over a certain height could come in and knock my kids over because they are so big play.   The play area was completely shaded and covered but still open air.

We didn't get a chance to do the River Cruise because a storm rolled in.  It got dark very quickly.  We barely made it to the car before the massive downpour began.  I couldn't help but stop and take a quick picture of the flags considering it is Flag Day today.
It was such a fun day today.  I wish the rain would have held off just a little bit longer but we need the rain so badly that I just can't complain much.  And, this little boy, well, he was just fine leaving early because he was TIRED!!
