His own cup

We just had a new Froyo place open near us.  Dan had to work late Thursday night so Mandy and I took he boys.  Normally, we just give Micah bites of ours.  I decided to give him his own cup with a couple of ounces of fat free banana yogurt.  As you can see, he did just fine with his own cup.

The first and last day of Kindergarten

A conversation I had with Jonah a couple of days ago as I was putting him to bed....

Me:  Jonah, you are about the cutest little boy I've ever seen.

Jonah:  About?  I think you mean THE.

Me:  Huh?

Jonah:  You said I was about the cutest but I think you meant I am THE cutest.

Obviously, with all the summer work I plan to do with him, self esteem issues are not on that list.

Kindergarten Swim Lessons at the YMCA

One of the things Jonah's school does at the end of each Kindergarten year is offering YMCA swim lessons.  The go five days for one hour lessons each day.  The kids love it.  Honestly, who wouldn't?  A field trip to a swimming pool...SCORE!

Top 10 Reading Counts Party

Last Thursday, Jonah was invited to a pizza party in the Media Center to honor the top 10 readers in Kindergarten.  I helped with the party and didn't have a sitter so Micah ended up being with me.  BIG MISTAKE!  He was tired, cranky, hungry and ready to be OUT of his stroller.   Poor guy.  Surely he will be a well adjusted kid because life most always doesn't work out the way he would prefer.  He has pretty much learned to go with the flow.

Jonah's principal talked to them about the importance of reading and how proud she was of them.  Then she gave them all a medal.

Micah wanted to prove he could read too so he pulled out an Elmo book.

Saving food for later

We went to dinner with several friends from church the other night. Micah was past his bedtime and somewhat cranky. My friend Mandy pulled Elmo up on her phone and let him watch.

He loved it so much that he didn't even notice the food gathering near his neck!

I finally just removed it for him since he had no desired to do so himself.

Student Ministry Rockathon

Friday night, our student ministry hosted a Rockathon.  It was supposed to be a fundraiser for camp but kids weren't really into that idea.  Since it was already planned before our new Interim Student Minister arrived, we decided to keep the event and just make it open to anyone who wanted to come.  It ended up being a great night of fun and fellowship for the ones who were there.

Since we were without a Student Minister during the planning, Dan staffed the event and marked himself down to work from 8:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m.  He took Jonah with him.  Micah and I worked from 8:00 until 10:00 p.m.  I feel sure that little wild child could have hung in there several more hours.

About an hour into the event, Micah discovered the snack table...and the OREOS!

Meet Jessica, my sister!  Except, not really.  But, lots of people think we look alike.  Then, they ask if we are sisters.  Not one person, LOTS of them.  That's totally okay though because I love her.  She and her husband Jon just joined our student ministry during this Interim period.  I keep telling her that she is definitely "Most Popular" around here these days.  The students adore her.  Their baby, Eli, is exactly one year and one week younger than Micah.  And, oh so sweet!
Our amazing Maintenance Supervisor was up there hanging out for a while with us.  Dan (and our church) love John!

There were so many other fun things that happened after we left but I didn't leave my camera there so you just have to use your imagination.  It was fun to hang with the students for the night.  We are looking forward to summer full of youth events and growing closer to God with them over that time!
