Serious fun!

I can't remember the last time we were all home together with no agenda.  It has been so long that I went back to my calendar and tried to find it.  I couldn't.  And, honestly, this day just snuck up on us.  Dan asked what we were doing after Micah's swim lesson and for the first time, I realized there was no plan.  Do you hear me?  NO PLAN!  Those were beautiful words to me.

Jonah and I scrolled through the movies on Netflix and Amazon looking for something that would be new to all of us.  We finally settled on the old school Swiss Family Robinson, circa 1960.  Before starting the movie, we had pizza and ice cream to eat.  Then came the big job of wearing Micah out and getting him ready for sleep so the rest of us could watch the movie.  That wasn't hard.  He was in a fabulous mood and we all had fun playing together.  I posted this picture on Facebook and said "We have serious fun at our house!"

And, we do!  Tonight was as close to perfect as it can get.  Tomorrow goes back to the crazy grind that is our lives.  We do love what we do and we love the people we get to do life with but sometimes it is nice to just be together as a family...and giggle!

Mommy doesn't like messes

Me:   (upon seeing something yucky on his arm)  Gross, Jonah.  What is that?  Where did it come from.

Jonah:  It is a booger.  It came from my nose.  I thought you knew where boogers came from?

Me:  Yes, I know where boogers come from.  I just didn't expect to see one on your arm.

Jonah:  Well, I put it there.  You don't like me wiping things on the kitchen table and making a mess.

True son, very true!

Brotherly love

Jonah was out of school Monday so we spent part of the day at the beach.  Dan was at work so I made sure to take my waterproof camera so he could experience Micah's first real trip to the beach.  And, by real, I mean since he started walking.  I took lots of pictures that I will post later but there is one that just melted my heart.  I put it on Facebook that day and got so many likes and comments that I knew it deserved a blog post of its own.

This photo was not at all posed!  I was talking to my friend and looked up and just gasped.  I grabbed my camera which was fortunately on (because Micah doesn't usually stand still long enough to capture a sweet moment if the camera has to be turned on!) and quickly snapped the picture.  I love it.  It is such an accurate reflection of their sweet relationship.  And, just because I love it so much, I converted it to B&W also.

Today has been one of "those" days.  It's 8:39 p.m. but feels more like 11:45 p.m.  I have friends who are really hurting and struggling and that weighs on me.  I talked to or spent time with four of them today.  And, I'm not talking about little struggles, I'm talking about big time life altering struggles.  So, my mind has been far more "them" centered than "us" centered.  Which means, our house is a little ragged.  I haven't cooked a meal in a few days.  (Unless you count Eggo Waffles or PB&J)  And, it seems that we are just existing to get to the next thing.  Like, tomorrow for example, we have eleven places to be.  ELEVEN!  I'm overwhelmed just thinking about it.

So, as you can imagine, the night time routine was a bit stressed.  Wednesdays are always hard because we don't get home until the time is already an hour or so after bedtime.  So, rushing to get kids bathed and in bed is quite daunting.  And, like most Wednesdays, Dan had a meeting after church so it was just me.  Jonah decided to pick tonight to start whining and crying on the way home about something very insignificant.  By the time we made it here, he was in full meltdown mode.  Micah, who thought Jonah was squealing to make him laugh, was in all out giggle and chase mode.  Max was howling because I had not taken the time to let him out of his crate.  It was a beautiful picture of peace and harmony.  I imagine this must be what Norman Rockwell used as inspiration for his lovely paintings.

Anyway, in midst of SHEER CHAOS, Dan called to say he was on his way home.  I was out of breath and slightly very annoyed by the madness around me.  I said "You know, on Twitter today, I read that it is my job to make our home so appealing, restful and peaceful that a man would NEVER have a reason to look for love elsewhere!  If that is the case, you probably shouldn't come home!"

HA!  We both had a laugh and he chose to come home anyway.  And in true Danno fashion, he jumped right in.  We tag teamed the boys and got them both bathed, dressed, storied and in bed for the night.  And, once again, my house is quiet.  I'm exhausted and so burdened for my friends.  But, I have a God who says "Come to me, all you are are weary and heavy ladened, and I will give you rest!"  So, I'm taking Him up on that tonight!

Jonah's first piano lesson

Jonah is such a lover of music.  Orchestra Sundays at church are his favorite.  One of his favorite DVDs is the Elmo's Peter and the Wolf.  Actually, both of my boys love that one.  (If your kid likes music, and you haven't seen it, you must get it!)  He knew most every piece of an orchestra long before he was two.  He has mentioned playing the piano several times over the last couple of years.  So, I contacted the best piano teacher in Volusia County this time last year about lessons.  His fingers wouldn't quite reach the distance they needed so we put the lessons off until he was ready.  That time finally came a couple of weeks ago.

And, let me tell you, this little boy L.O.V.E.D. it!  He could hardly wait to get there and didn't really want to leave when it was over.  He took her a little thing of flowers and she made such a huge deal over it.  Now he wants to take her flowers every time.  ha!

If you know Ginny, then all of these pictures speak volumes.  You can see her expressions and can tell exactly how she it talking to Jonah.  If you don't know her, then you just need to know how incredible she is.  I'm so grateful for Jonah to have the opportunity to take piano lessons but I'm especially grateful that she is his teacher.  She is an amazing organist and a fabulous piano teacher.  I'm glad my little guy gets to be influenced by this sweet lady...and even learn a little piano on the side.

If only he ever got to do something fun

Me:  We only have one hour to play then we have to leave for Micah's swim lessons.

Jonah:  Micah gets swim lessons?  I wish I ever got to do something fun.

School's out for...just today!

Am I the only one ready for summer?  I CAN. NOT. WAIT. for lazy days with my two little boys.  I envision a summer full of days just like this one.  I woke the boys up at 8:30 and told them we were going to the beach.  After a stop at Target for sunscreen, we were on the beach by 10:00 a.m.  We had such a wonderful day.  I can't wait to do this over and over again this summer.  I have tons more pictures to come but thought I'd give you these two just for starters!
