For quite some time now, we have had a little surprise trip home planned. Our flight was to leave tomorrow morning and have us in Jackson by noon. We were going to go surprise our family at their work and then see them more during the week. We were going to celebrate the birthday of one of my best friends. We were going to go down to Vidalia and visit our friends there. We were going to have lots of fun.
But, a certain little boy had an accident on the playground that landed us in the Emergency Clinic yesterday afternoon.
As you can see, this wasn't a very fun experience for him...or us! He was hurting and scared. That combination doesn't go together so well.
After the xray, we went back to Jonah's room and just waited to hear from the doctor. We both looked at the film and felt relieved that we didn't see a break. You know, with our medical degree and all?
It didn't take long for the doctor to come back into the room to tell us that both bones were fractured. So much for our ability to read xrays. When the doctor said "broken," Jonah just fell apart. It was tough. We finally got him calm enough for them to splint and wrap his arm.
The doctor gave us instructions about how to take care of him and then told us to see an Orthopedic Doc on Monday or Tuesday. He mentioned getting a cast and this was Jonah's response.
He is totally freaked out about having a cast and/or a sling. He doesn't want anyone to see him. He keeps saying he is embarrassed. Yesterday was rough. But, today is a new day and his attitude is much better. We told him we HAD to get out today and people were going to see him and he seems to be better with it. We couldn't go to church because I can't get that shirt off of him yet and he stinks. And, we were scared of him being bumped and hurting him more. Hopefully, he will get a hard cast tomorrow and we can get him out of the house and a little more accepting of this before school starts back next week.
We were terribly sad about missing our long awaited trip home. Especially since Dan was getting to go with us. He hasn't been home since we moved here 2.5 years ago. But, we totally trust in the providence of God and know that all things happen for a reason. So, we will spend spring break here and Dan will work and just take vacation another time. I'm sad to miss our family and friends but grateful for the family right under my roof.
