Jonah's Toys

When I am home with Micah during the day, he crawls as fast as he can to the same location.  Over and over and over.  He always ends up right in the midst of Jonah's Imaginext toys.  And, when he realizes I am watching him, he looks up and just grins.  He knows that isn't where he should be but he just cant help himself!

I am so excited to be part of this...

I was asked by World Vision to be a guest blogger for the Tampa Women of Faith event.  I could not be more thrilled.  I, along with one of my sweet friends, will travel to Tampa tomorrow to attend this incredible event.  I'll have the opportunity to take you with me by sharing the truths of the weekend.  Thank you to World Vision and Women of Faith for this great opportunity.  I can not wait to share with you all about the ministry of World Vision and Women of Faith!

Blessings Bags

A few weeks ago, Jonah and I went to check Dr. Henry into his hotel while he was still at the men's retreat with Dan.  As we were sitting at the red light, Jonah noticed a homeless man holding a sign.  He asked what the sign said and I told him.  He could not believe the man did not have a home or food to eat.  That opened up many discussions for us.  He became more and more concerned as the days progressed.

We tried to think of tangible ways to live out the gospel with him.  Just handing money out the window would not do that.  So, thanks to Pinterest, I got the idea about Blessings Bags.  Basically, you buy non-perishable foods and bottle water to put in gallon bags.  Then, you hand them out the window when you see someone asking for money for food.  Jonah loved this idea.  We made a trip to Target to buy all the things for our bags.  He loved picking out the foods to go in the bags.

We came home and put the bags together.  Jonah wrote little cards (after I did the first one) that said God loves you.  We then put the bags in our cars so we could hand them through the window when needed.
I loved this activity with him.  I want him to be a person with a compassionate heart.  I want him to recognize needs of others.  I want him to have eyes that see hurt and need.  And, I want him to learn how to evaluate what he can do to help.  I know these bags are just little things but to him, they are big.  And, I'm proud of him for caring.

Dental Visits

I took both boys to a new dentist a few weeks ago.  I've really struggled with the whole "finding a good dentist" deal.  I worked in Dentistry for over 15 years of my life.  I worked for some of THE BEST dentists out there.  They were people of impeccable character,  strong moral convictions, honest and out for the good of the patient over themselves.  I'm looking for that here but have struggled to find it.  So, the boys tried out a new Pediatric guy.  Overall, I was very pleased.  And Jonah thought his office was super fun!

This is Jonah's 6th or 7th (?) dental cleaning and exam.  He passed with flying colors.  No cavities with great oral hygiene.  I don't necessarily believe a baby should see the dentist but Micah had some significant discoloring on his upper anteriors and then his lower anteriors are set to form a nice "W."  I wanted him to look at all of that since we would be there anyway.

My concern about the discoloration was because I took less than 20 prenatal vitamins during my pregnancy.  I was SO sick that I could not swallow them with throwing them up.  I was afraid that had affected his teeth.  But, it seemed to just be an issue with the iron in his formula.  She was able to polish the staining right off.  Granted it came back the next day but I now have hope that when he goes off of formula next month, the staining will go away for good.

But, his poor lower anteriors...can you say ORTHODONTICS!?!?!?!  The kid is set for a few years of braces.  He has terrible spacing issues now with his primary teeth.  I can only imagine how bad it will be when his permanent teeth come in.

Oh, and in case I failed to mention it, Micah H-A-T-E-D every part of the polishing and exam.  He cried more in that office than he has in the last month combined.
Jonah, on the other hand, handled it like a pro and did great.  He loves going to the dentist.  (He is SOOO my child!)

Crazy little boy!

Today is Micah's 11 month birthday.  In just one month, my sweet baby boy will be a whole year old.  I'm sure he will be walking and maybe even talking.  It really is hard to believe.  Typically, on the night of his monthly birthday, I do an update.  I'm not doing that tonight because I'm exhausted.  The past two days have been mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting.  So, I'm going to bed instead.  (Granted, it is almost midnight!)

But, I couldn't let his monthly birthday past without you getting a small glimpse into my life with an 11 month old.  The attempt to get a few good pictures of him in his monthly onesie proved to be incredibly difficult.  A certain little boy did not want to sit still.  He actually went head first into his bin of books.  He scaled the back of the chair.  He pulled his sticker off.  HE. WAS. DIFFICULT!

My friend Mandy was here while I was trying to capture these pictures and she said "You should just put the sticker on his back since that is all we see!"  So, we did.  These pictures are so telling of this stage of his life.

While these are silly pictures, there IS an actual update coming of his 11 month birthday.  So, stay tuned.
