Arrrrgh, Matey

I wanted to include a photo on Jonah's birthday invitation so we dressed him in his Pirate costume one night and headed outside to take a few pictures. Our sprinkler system was going so we went across the street to our neighbor's house and asked if we could use their yard. They gladly allowed our little pirate to be photographed.

Since I only used one of the pictures on his invitation, I thought I'd share some of my favorites that didn't make the invitation with you.

Jonah's 4th Birthday Invitation

I obviously blurred out our home address and phone number since this is a public blog. So imagine this invite without the blurred mess on it! :-)

More Louisiana friends

When we moved to Vidalia in July of 2002, we had no idea just how many precious friends God would bless our lives with. We were so fortunate to be part of a church staff with such wonderful people. Gary is now on staff at Northbrook Baptist Church in Cullman, AL. Jason is on staff at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston, LA. We miss being so far from them and certainly miss working with them. The three guys were known as "The Dream Team" because of how well they worked together and accomplished for the kingdom. Those really were good times.

Over the years, we have gotten together and been able to spend time together. A couple of weeks ago, Jason's family came to DeLand to visit us. They also got to do a day at Disney and a couple of Days at Daytona Beach. It was so good to spend time with such good friends. We saw them last when Jada was pregnant with Jase so it was our first time to meet him. What a cutie he is. He will be two in October and is incredibly personable and well behaved. I totally could have kept him! :-)

Jalyn is such a wonderful big sister. She and Jase are the exact spacing of what Jonah and Micah will be. I was so encouraged to see the sweet relationship they shared and hopeful of a brother/brother bond like those two have. He adores her and she is amazing with him. I found her quite a few times just holding him in her lap.

They spent Monday at Disney then did the Orlando outlet malls Tuesday. We planned to meet them in Daytona for dinner and my little swimmer needed a nap. I encouraged him to lay in our bed and nap. If memory serves me correctly, this is his first nap ever in our bed. You would have thought I was torturing him to make him sleep in there. I knew his room was dark and comfy and that he would sleep for several hours. I needed a power nap so I encouraged this. I had to snap a picture just to show his daddy.
After a wonderful dinner at Carrabbas, we went outside for a few pictures. I love seeing pictures of my little boy with kids of friends. We were all so close long before these little ones were ever thought of. So, it is fun to see them spend time together and be buddies.

My kitchen helper

Jonah loves to cook. Let me say that again. Jonah LOVES to cook. He loves to be in the kitchen while I cook. He never passes up an opportunity to "help" me. Sometimes it is fun for me. Sometimes it is a struggle to let him help. Sometimes I take the opportunity to cook something just because I know how much it will mean to him to be part of it.

I wanted to let him help put the kabobs on the skewers but after I poked myself several times, I opted to let him offer direction on what went next. He would tell us which piece of meat or which vegetable to put on. He loved it because he was the boss. (And, just so you know, the kabobs were WONDERFUL!!!)

Jonah's Super File Folder of Games

Our sweet friend, Amanda has spent countless hours working on a special gift for our soon to be 4 year old. Her creativity amazes me. (You'll see why when you see these pictures.) She made Jonah a huge binder of games using file folders and velcro. He opened the box and just stared at the cover for a while. I think he was trying to figure out what it was.

He opened it to find a letter from Manna. I had to read it to him but not until he gave it the old college try! He held that letter and stared at those words as if he knew exactly what they said.
We started flipping through the binder and playing the different games. He could hardly play one for wanting to go the next one. His mean mommy made him start and finish each folder before he got to the next one. We started by dressing a bear and changing it into all of it's outfits.

We moved on to Noah's ark then to a shape game and a counting game. He was entertained for hours. We stopped only for lunch then dived right in. I have to keep it put up or he would have every piece out of the folder it belongs in. He loves his "special folder book" and I can see many, many hours of entertainment coming from it.

Manna, thank you for your time and effort on this special birthday book. Thank you most of all for loving our little boy. We miss you!

Mr. Exact

One of the quick meals we make around here is pizza. We all like different toppings so we divide the pizza into thirds and each make our own. Jonah likes plain pepperoni. I like pepperoni with jalapenos and mushrooms. Dan likes pepperoni with mushrooms, black olives and green olives. Typically, after we make the pizza, we put it directly in the oven. Not this time!! My sweet husband, Mr. exact science had to measure to be sure everyone got equal pizza. As a sweet southern girl would say, Bless his Heart!!

Way back WHENsday

This is our first family picture after Jonah was born on July 27, 2006 @ 1:14 p.m. We are in full celebration mode around here in honor of the little life God blessed us with! Stay tuned for lots of birthday posts over the next couple of weeks!

Independence Day Celebration

On July 5th, we headed over to Frank & Margie's house for a cookout with some of their family and friends. Jonah was thrilled to see golf clubs waiting for him. He was quite content until he noticed the baseball bat and ball. He could not decide which sport to play.

After lunch, he changed into his swimsuit so he could play on the slip and slide and with the water balloons. That kid loves anything that involves water. He somehow coaxed Frank and Margie into the water balloon war even though they were fully clothed.

Holidays are the times that you usually miss family and tradition the most. I'm so grateful for the people that God has given us to be our family here.
