Jonah's moon

In February of last year, Tommy sent me an email with two pictures he took of "Jonah's moon!" He knew how much my little boy loved the moon. I did a post back then about the pictures. Click HERE to read that. I treasure these pictures even more now!

You'll be missed!

I got a call early this morning from my friend Amanda. Anytime your phone rings before 6 a.m., you fear the worst. I was in a little bit of a dream state when I heard my phone vibrate. I picked it up to see Amanda's name on caller ID and I jumped up to go to the door to let her in. Then I remembered I lived 12 hours away. It took me a second to realize she was calling and by that time, she hung up. But, I listened to her voice mail to get the sad news that Tommy Chandler had a heart attack.

It took my breath. I immediately called her back. I hoped he was in a hospital somewhere but my worst fears were confirmed. Tommy died. Josh had left already to go tell Sue (zoo-zoo). If you don't know the family connection, Tommy is Josh's uncle and Sue's brother. You will recognize him from various pictures on the blog. He was at the hospital when Jonah was born. He has been at every one of Jonah's birthday parties. He was a faithful servant in the sound ministry at FBCV. He was a daddy to 3 kids and about to be a grandfather for the first time. For a long time he was Taddy. He hated that nickname but it stuck. It didn't help the matter when Jonah started calling him that.

He was loved by so many people. He was a true servant. He did anything he could to help other people. He had a kind heart. He was special to so many people. I'm glad my life was touched by his. I'm better for knowing him. He would probably read this and say "Oh Well!" That was his thing. I wish I didn't live so far away from my friends today.

We'll miss you Taddy!

A date with my boy

I picked Jonah up from school Tuesday and headed out for a fun afternoon with my favorite little boy. Dan had already told me he needed to devote his time after work to writing a paper for school. I figured by taking Jonah out for the afternoon/evening that would give him some uninterrupted school time. Besides, I'm always willing to help my hubby out by spending time at Disney!

I stopped on the side of the castle to take a picture of Jonah when a man offered to take one of us together. I didn't pass that opportunity up. But, maybe I should have. I'm pretty sure photography isn't his greatest skill set! Can we say SHADOW? Nice shot of the castle though! :-)

We stopped at the Dole Whip booth for a Pineapple float. YUMMY! That will be my new favorite treat at Disney from now on. Soft Serve Pineapple ice cream with pineapple juice. I'm not sure who liked it most, me or him!

We only stopped to meet one set of characters because we spent so much time on the rides. We couldn't pass up Lilo & Stitch because Jonah wanted to show them his telescope.

On our way out of the Buzz Lightyear ride, Jonah spotted Zurg and wanted to take a picture beside him. He gave his typical cute Jonah smile and then I told him if he was next to Zurg that he needed to look mean. You can see that in the 2nd picture.

I always cherish special times like this with my little boy. Even though we were surrounded by thousands of people, it was great to have some alone time with him to remind him just how special he is to me. He grabbed my hand at one point and said "Isn't this special?" Yes little one, it is!

So grown up

We pulled into the garage tonight and Jonah asked if it was bedtime. I told him he had ten minutes until we had to change into our pajamas. He said "well, if you wanna take some pictures of me this cute you better get your camera out!" So, I did!

My best friend

Jonah- Mommy, Lammy is my best friend!
Me- Who is your next best friend?
Jonah- Just Lammy. He is my always best friend.
Me- Am I your friend?
Jonah- I'm pretty sure you are my mom!
Me- Is Daddy your friend?
Jonah- No, Daddy is a preacher. He's not anybody's friend!

Way back WHENsday

I really did go WAY back for this post. I pulled pictures out of the box and actually scanned them. I forgot how many developed pictures I have. So, in some of the Wednesdays to come, I'll scan in some old pictures for a walk down memory lane. I'm specifically pulling out pictures of friends who I know read the blog. I figure they need a laugh too!

This picture was taken on Easter Sunday at FBC, Glen Rose, Texas. Dan was the Interim Worship Leader while we were in Seminary. He made a commitment before we got to seminary that he would not take a full-time position. He wanted to focus on school rather than a ministry. FBC, Glen Rose loved us and we loved them. The allowed Dan to remain Interim while he was in seminary. We all hoped God would call us there but we just never felt it. That was a hard position to turn down.

Adam & Julie Myrick were our best friends at SWBTS. They live in South Carolina now and we actually get to see them at the end of this month when they get come to Disney. Then, when we visit Doug & Allison in South Carolina in March, we'll see them then. They spent Easter with us in Glen Rose then we all went to Fossil Rim for the afternoon. Good times with good friends!

This is me with my daddy at a wedding in 1996. He was miserable in that tux and wanted it OFF! He shoes were a size too small. It wasn't a happy day for him. That is pretty obvious by the look on his face. My dad died 4 years ago yesterday. This picture made me smile today!
I spent the summer of 1994 as a summer missionary in Ventura County, California. I started a lifelong friendship with this family, the St. Laurents. Loved them then, love them now.
During our second year of seminary, Dan's college roommates moved right across the street from us. There are no words to describe the fun we had with them. I went from having one husband to having three. I cooked meals for them every day, I ironed their clothes, I gave them dating advice, I talked to girls after they went out, I got them in classes that were closed and gave them their grades before they were posted. I even waxed one of their backs! Gross, huh?
Laguna Formal, 1995! This sweet girl is one of God's finest! Her blog makes me laugh...a lot! Her character is impeccable. He relationship to her hubby and kids is inspirational to us all. Facebook reconnected us after many years and I'm so glad.
And then comes Jenny! She was a senior in high school when I was her youth minister. Now, she is the precious momma to two awesome boys. She married her high school sweetheart who was also in our youth ministry. I was also reconnected to her through Facebook. We follow each other's blogs, pray for each other's families and cheer each other on in this crazy life. I love seeing how God is working in her life.
The next two pictures are of me and my sweet hubby on the weekend we were engaged in September of 1998. I was in New Orleans, LA at a Dental convention and he arranged it with my whole office to surprise me there. After a carriage ride, a saxophone player and these beautiful flowers, he popped the question.
The next night, Dan joined all of my office staff at dinner in New Orleans. Little did we know the ride that was ahead of us. I'm so glad he asked me to marry him!!
Darla and Doug at Christmas, 1998. It is almost hard to remember those two not having spouses and kiddos. This picture is a reminder of that.
I used to spend tons of time babysitting. Dan joined in those outings once we started dating. I went from being hero to zero when he was around. I knew in those moments that he would be a fabulous daddy.
