Lunch with Rob & Melanie

Last Friday, we had lunch with Rob and Melanie in Sanford, FL.  They actually live only two hours from us but we met for lunch 800 miles away in a town neither of us had ever been to.  Yep, that is the beauty of a good friend.  We talk, email, IM and Facebook all the time but hardly ever see each other.  Then, it just so happens that we vacation the same week in the same state only minutes from each other.  We love Rob and Melanie and always look forward to our times with them.

Unfortunately, Jonah's interaction with them on this trip revolved around our Iphones.  He was entranced with a new preschool learning game and would barely look up to talk to them.  Being wonderful like they are, they just met him where he was and played games with him.  That made him very happy.

I attempted to take a picture of the three of them but my camera was giving me fits.  I haven't quite learned how to operate it so I sometimes end up with pictures like this next one.  Pictures with a red glow and some people looking at the camera and some not.  It has a random flash that pops up on occasion that leads the subject to think the photo has been taken.  It has something to do with red eye.  So, please disregard all photos with the red glow.  :-)

While we were in Don Pablos eating, a TERRIBLE storm came and we were stuck!  None of us had umbrellas but that didn't matter because they woudl not have made a difference after all.  It was raining so hard and the wind was awful.  We hung out together for a while then Dan braved the weather to get our car for us.  Jonah was tired and needed a nap.  We finally got in our car and waved goodbye to them through the rain.  Then, we noticed them going back inside.  They did not have a 3 year old that needed a nap so there was no reason for them to fight the flood.

Late night ice cream

Our hotel was right next to a Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins. Jonah normally goes to bed at 8:00 p.m. but was up late Sunday night so we decided to forgo all bedtime rules and head out for ice cream...at 9:30 p.m!!!
Jonah ate all of his rainbow sherbet. He then ate a few bites of Dan's mint chocolate chip and several bites of my Pralines & Cream. THE BOY LIKES ICE CREAM!

Jonah at Daytona

Our most favorite moment during vacation came from Jonah watching the race cars at the Daytona International Speedway. I wish I had the video on when the cars passed him the first time. This was taken after he had seen them go around 4-5 times.

Flying out

Jonah has been on an airplane at least 8 or 9 times in his short life but this was the first time he REALLY got into it. He was so excited. We could have done nothing but take off and land and he would have thought this was a perfect vacation.

We stood in line to board the plane and Jonah made sure to wear his own backpack and push his stroller. He told us he was a big boy and he could do it! He even handed his boarding pass to the person taking them up.

Our flight to Orlando was only half full so we had our choice of seats. That made traveling with a 3 years old much easier. He loved picking his seat.

Our flight was completely uneventful and Jonah loved every minute. We fly out again today to head home. We haven't told him that yet because every five minutes he would ask when we were getting on that airplane. We are holding that information close right now. :-)

Our first place to eat in Florida on the night we arrived welcomed us with a huge mosaic that totally impressed Jonah. He could have stood there for hours! That didn't happen because mommy and daddy were hungry! :-)

Getting through security

Jonah was so excited about riding on the airplane. We talked about everything that would happen and how much fun he would have. What we did not talk about was how he would have to take off his shoes in order to get through security. This did not make him happy. The lady in front of him was so sweet to help him calm down by showing him her bare feet and how everyone in line had no shoes on. I think he would have been fine if he could have held his shoes. I think he thought they were taking his shoes to keep.

He had to walk through security on his own so he waited patiently for his turn. He stood there with his hands by his side and his eyes wide open.

The first thing he did was plop on the ground and put his shoes back on. He was so bothered that they took his shoes! When I handed them to him, he looked at the screener and said "Thank you for giving my shoes back! They are mine!"
Note to self: Remind Jonah of the shoe issue before we fly home later this week.
