He made it...

I went to the church at noon today to see the cross placed on the steeple. There were lots of people there and such an excitement in the air. Our church and community is abuzz about this new addition and renovation. It is most evident on days like today when people gather to witness a milestone in this project. We had very young babies like Eli and Douglas there to witness the placement of the cross along with some of our oldest senior adults. What a great testimony to the health of a church.

They guy to the left of Dan is Tim Allen. He is with Allen Construction out of Rayville, LA. I must admit, I was a little nervous about Dan being up so high. No matter how safe you are, something can always go wrong. I was glad when his feet were back on solid, level ground! (But, it was fun to watch!) He said the view was incredible. I heard someone say it was probably about 125-150 feet in the air.
Julia came out to share in the excitement. I really wished at this point I had gotten Jonah from Preschool so he could watch. But, I knew I could not take pictures and keep him safe at the same time. We spent most of our time in the middle of the road. It was then that I realized we were probably in more danger than Dan!

The old steeple came down earlier today. It is odd to look up and see it gone. You could always see it peeking through the trees from Natchez. It will be interesting to see how this one looks in the landscape as you cross the bridge.

Dan took a marker up with him and inscribed the horizontal beam of the cross with a verse of Scripture. The verse is listed below.

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God."
1 Corinthians 1:18

People kept asking what we were going to do with the old steeple. I heard a rumor that it was going on top of our house. HA! Clare suggested making a kids playground out of it. Who knows?

What a great day!  Every stage of this project has been so fun and so amazing to see the hand of God as we follow his leadership.  I can only imagine the great things God will do in this building when it is completed and dedicated back to Him.

WAY up high

As I approached the church from the back side today, I saw the steeple going up on the addition.  That means two things.  First, it means the old steeple is coming down tomorrow.  Second, it means my husband will be going to the top of the steeple to place the cross/lightning rod on the new steeple.  Ummmm, YEEKS!!!
See that cross?  Well, it is on the the old steeple.  That one is coming down.  Dan does not have a part in that.  Look at the picture below, that is the new steeple.  It went up today while we were in Jackson.  It is missing the cross.

When we arrived back in Vidalia tonight, the new steeple was in place but is missing the final element.  The cross still needs to be placed!  Those silly construction workers have convinced my husband that it is tradition for the pastor of the church to place the cross on the completed steeple.  Dan thought this was a joke for the first week.  But, as time has progressed, he realized they weren't joking.

So, the date and time is set.  Noon tomorrow.  Apparently lots of  people are planning on being there to witness this event.  I'm not one of them!  Dusty (who is afraid of heights) has decided he wants to go up there too.  So, as my dear friend Sue says, one misstep and this church is without a staff!  Let's pray for solid footing!!!!  Seriously...quit reading this and pray!  :-)

I'm sure I will be back tomorrow with pictures.  Surely someone there will have a camera!

These eyes..

As of today, these eyes have seen 2 years and 6 months of life. These eyes have twinkled with delight as mommy and daddy walk into his room each morning. These eyes spot people he loves from across a parking lot and then his legs run as fast as they can to get to those very people. These eyes spot a little black dog and then squeals of joy follow as that dog interacts with him. These eyes focus intently on all things Disney. These eyes cry rivers of tears when he thinks he has disappointed someone he loves. These eyes have changed my life!!!

Lazy boy!

Jonah and I walked from the Welch's house to ours this afternoon. For those of you who don't know, there are only four houses between theirs and ours. After we cleared the first house, Jonah looked at me and said "How 'bout you go get the car?" I said "No, we are going to walk!" He stopped and cried and then said "Please get our car...Jonah is SO tired!!!"

Well, I guess we can't complain!!

This is the conversation that took place behind me on the way to school today.

Jonah: Julia, you wanna play with my Lammy?

Julia: Yeah!!!!

Jonah: (in a loud voice) Julia, you have to say YES SIR!!!!

Julia: Okay!

Okay, apparently we haven't explained to him that he isn't a sir! But, I guess this means he gets the general concept??

Polka Dots

A friend from my youth group days has started a group on Facebook for us all to reconnect. Everyone is pulling out old pictures from the eighties and early nineties to upload to that group. Last night, I pulled out my big box of pictures and started taking pictures of the pictures so I could upload some. Yes, I know that is what a scanner is for but that would take too much time.
Jonah came in the room and kept smiling at me and saying "take my picture." So, I obliged. I mean, how could you not with a cute kiddo like this smiling at you?? He was in a smiling mood for sure!
If you notice the two mosquito bites on his cheeks, you will be interested to know that Jonah calls those his polka dots. He saw them in the mirror and said "you see my red polka dots?"
