D.A.R.E. Tournament

Today was the D.A.R.E. Fishing Tournament. I know that no one really expected Jonah to participate because it involved fishing. And, if you know us well, neither Dan nor I fish. But, thankfully, one of Jonah's surrogate grandparents/best buddies stepped in and saved the day. Thanks to Cliff and Beppa, Jonah got to experience his first fishing trip. As you can see below, he was a bit intrigued by the crickets. (or frickets, as he calls them!)

I'm sorry I don't have much insight on the pictures above but I was not with them when they were fishing. I had a baby shower to attend so I sent the camera with Dan. He switched off with me for the weigh-in. He had great seats (30 rows up on the 35 yard line) to the LSU/MSU game in Baton Rouge so he left at noon headed south. I was so glad I got to experience the weigh-in with Jonah, Cliff and Beppa.

As you know, I ALWAYS love experiencing new things with my little boy. But, I also love getting to watch others experience life with Jonah. He brings such joy and excitement to every thing he does and that excitement spreads to everyone involved. It was fun to watch Cliff and Jonah interact over the 5 fish he caught. (More about those fish later!)
Cliff helped Jonah carry his bucket of fish from the boat to the bagging table. To be honest, I have never heard about bagging a fish so that was a first for me too. I think the next picture is so sweet. He was hanging on to Cliff's leg but paying close attention to what was happening with his fish.

Cliff tried to get Jonah to hold his registration card up so I could get a picture but Jonah refused. So, Cliff held it up for me.
Jonah caught 5 fish that weighed right under a pound. (combined, not individual!) Needless to say, I don't think he was the big winner today. But, he had an absolute blast so that is all that matters to me!!! The cool thing is that every kid that participates gets a trophy and a prize. He was thrilled to get the trophy and took it right to Cliff so he could see.

Today was another first for Jonah. He got to try his first snow cone. It was a joyous occasion for this little boy. He loved it!

The next picture was taken on our way back to the car. I love it! It was such a special day for my little boy AND I'm pretty sure Cliff loved it too! Those two have a sweet relationship.  Jonah loved fishing but the best part of his day was being with Cliff.

I have to tell you about what happened at dinner. Jonah was finishing his fruit and asked if he could watch "Mike Sully." (Monsters, Inc.) I said "Jonah, is Mike Sully your favorite?" He said "No, Cwiff my favorite...I luv him!"

Jonah was exhausted when we got home. I could barely keep him awake on the short drive to our house. We walked in, changed his clothes and he immediately got in his bed. Then, he got up and got his trophy and fell asleep with it clutched in his hand.
By the way, did anyone ever think that my child's first trophy would be for a fishing tournament??? Yeah, me either!!

Art Projects (week 3)

You probably can't tell it from the picture above, but that is a worksheet to teach kids to cut. It was Jonah's first time to use scissors. After the cut on each line, the got to glue their paper to a piece of construction paper. Mrs. Tan says Jonah was adamant about using a pink sheet. Hmmm...

They used their thumbprints again to make a caterpillar. Between last year at Jefferson Street and this year at Jefferson Street, I think we have made every imaginable thing using our thumbprints!!! I love it!
Also, in honor of the letter C, he decorated his own cupcake. He made sure to tell me "Mommy not eat it, Jonah eat it!"
They made a really cool C book. Inside the book were die cuts glued to each page. Each die cut was something that started with a C. He was very happy to show us what was on each page.

I think he had a really good time making this clown because he talked about it for a while yesterday. "I dit it, I maked da clown!"
He got a sticker when he was leaving and you might guess, it was a CAKE sticker since cake starts with C!
I would assume this is a cat? Obviously, our coloring skills aren't the best! HA!

Welcome to the world, Hannah!

Our friends, Josh & Diane Hargon have a new baby girl at their house. Hannah Hope Hargon was born Sunday, September 14th. I went to see her at the hospital after she was born ( a couple of times...I couldn't stay away!) but never posted any of those pictures on the blog. I put them all on Diane's facebook instead.

Sunday night, after business meeting, our family headed over to their house so we could visit with them. It was Jonah's first time to meet Hannah. Diane wanted me to bring him to the hospital but I wasn't sure that was a good idea. She said he could hold her so he immediately sat down and waited for "da baby" to be put in his arms.

He was really sweet and gentle with her. The next picture was actually pretty good until Toby realized he was being left out of the action so he came over to get in the picture.
He was so sweet with Hannah, but when he was done, he was DONE! He just let go and started to get up. I sure am glad I was holding on to her still.

Dan was more than happy to hold her! It is amazing what fatherhood does to a man!!! Before Jonah, Dan never would have held a baby. Now, he patiently waits his turn but he always wants a turn. The other interesting fact about that is when he would visit hospitals to see new babies before Jonah was born, I would always ask what the baby weighed, time of birth, etc. He would always say he didn't know. Now that he lived through the experience, he can tell you all the birth stats after every hospital visit. So sweet!

Check out Hannah's hair! The kid has some serious hair!! Diane said Marlie was the same way. There is just something about a baby with lots of hair!!

I had to introduce you to Hannah since you will see lots more pictures of her in the posts to come. Jonah and Marlie are the best of friends so I have a feeling, Hannah will join in their fun before too much longer!!

Who taught this kid to talk????

Jonah and I were reading a story on the floor last night when he burped. He immediately looked at me, grinned then said "Uh-oh, I pooted out of my mouth!"

The boat

Last Saturday, I walked beside Jonah as he drove down the street in his motorized car. He is almost too big for it so we use it as often as we can these days. Dan was thick in the middle of papers for school so I wanted to escape the school setting and get some fresh air. We drove around for a while then noticed Cliff's boat was in the driveway. Jonah spotted it and steered his little Tot Rod right over.

I put him in Cliff's boat but watched him pretty closely because I know nothing about boats or the buttons on them. I was scared he would mess something up. After we played in the boat for about 15 minutes, Beppa walked outside. I was under the impression that they were both gone since her car wasn't there. But, it was only Cliff that was gone so she came out to play with us for a while.

After a little while, Cliff drove up and Jonah promptly told him to "get in!" Cliff was very obedient to his favorite 2 year old by hopping right in the boat. Jonah made sure to tell him where to sit.

After Cliff and Jonah backed the boat under the carport, he started drying the boat off. Beppa gave Jonah a cloth so he could help Cliff. As you can see, Jonah used his hand to dry the boat and just held the rag.

Jonah had a BLAST in Cliff's boat. He had even more fun just hanging out with Cliff and Beppa. He was most impressed that Cliff's boat was "like Jonah's shirt!" I tried to tell him Cliff bought it in support of the MS State Bulldogs but Cliff negated that.
