Elf on The Shelf

When Jonah was just 3 months old, I went to Mistletoe Marketplace and got the coolest little gift book. It is called The Elf On The Shelf. The premise of the book is that your family adopts an elf that watches your all day long and reports back to Santa each night. Then, when you wake up the next morning, you have to find the Elf again because he is hiding in a different place each time he returns from the North Pole.
Well, Jonah has been a little young to really understand this for the past two Christmas Seasons so we pulled it out this year in hopes of him understanding. Dan read him the book and introduced him to our Elf. We had to name our Elf and Dan & Jonah chose PHIBBY as his name.

The next morning, Jonah had to find where Phibby was hiding. It took him a little while and he was a little frustrated by not immediately finding him but he was so happy when did spot him. I'm thinking Hide and Seek is not going to be his best game!!

I love having new and fun traditions with my little boy. I know there are varied opinions on Santa but we do not have an issue with Santa. We make sure to read stories and talk about the True Meaning of Christmas with him and he seems to be comprehending some of it. He saw a baby at daycare yesterday and asked if it was Baby Jesus. Obviously, we aren't there yet, but he does know the major players of the Christmas story and he does not include Santa in that grouping. Stay tuned for more pictures of Jonah and Phibby over the next couple of weeks.

I so want to do the Elf on a Shelf with SM. I just didn't think she was old enough for it yet. I love the idea. It seems so fun. And we're like you. Santa is part of being a kid. We share with SM now about Baby Jesus and that He is really why we have Christmas. I can't wait to hear more about Phibby. I'll be watching for updates. Love y'all. Oh, tell Bro. Dan I need to talk to him. Ha.

Looks like your doing some catching up. I scanned through with plans to read later. It's one thing when you don't have time to blog, but it's really bad when don't even had time to read someone else's.

Have you seen this? I took take a little time to do this for Natalie. She hasn't seen it yet, but I think she will love it! It was really simple to do.

We too have an elf. His name is Scout and we have had him for 2 years. Christian and Peyton wake up every morning excited to see where Scout might be. They race to see who can find him first. They also tell Scout what they want santa to bring them for Christmas. i even caught them showing him the ToysRUs wish book. On Christmas eve the kids tell Scout they will miss him and can't wait to see him next year. I hope Jonah will have as much fun with Phibby as Christian and Peyton do with Scout. It is also a good way for the kids not to fight as much(since Scout is watching!!!)
